We began our Memorial Day weekend early Friday morning. We made a stop at Cracker Barrel in Springville. Jake had asked earlier in the week why we never go there for breakfast anymore. (we used to go once in a while in St. George, it is too far away now).
Lydia and I shared some french toast, eggs and yummy turkey sausage. She ate everything.
Jake and Aaron were in heaven with plenty of choices of good food to eat.
Katie wasn't very hungry and just wanted to eat biscuits and jam. She ended up eating two of Aaron's biscuits and the waitress had to bring us a few more.
Jake ordered two huge pancakes with blackberries. This is the before picture.
The first stop on our trip was in Richfield/Annabella to my cousin Jon's "farm" as Jake calls it. They have a beautiful house on about 3 acres of land. We saw lots and lots of animals and were treated like royalty. We enjoyed an afternoon outside and Jon tried to help Jake get his fill of animals.
They had two new baby kittens. Katie and Lydia LOVED them. They got lots of handling by our girls.
The highlight of the whole weekend for Jake was these cute yellow lab puppies. Jon's neighbor breeds them and these babies were about 4 weeks old. So cute.
All of the kids enjoyed the puppies. There were eight of them and they were labeled with a colored string around their neck and called by the color names.
Red was Jake's favorite. Look at that smile.
I was really surprised how comfortable Lydia was around all of the animals. She is usually a little bit nervous. Who could be nervous around these cute baby pups?
Jon had arranged for a babysitter so that the adults to go to dinner. What a treat for us. Jon and Jolynn took us to Steve's Steak House where Jon and Aaron proceeded to each eat 14 oz. of prime rib. Amazing. We stayed with Jon and Jolynn for one night and then headed off to St. George. Thanks a million for a fun visit Jon and fam. Jake is already talking about when we will visit again.
Saturday morning we headed off to Grandma and Grandpa Wells house. Lydia had been talking about going to "Grandpa's" all week and was so excited to finally arrive. We visited for a bit and then Jake Katie and Aaron went to the movies with Jenny and her family and I stayed home with Grandma, Lydia and Sam. Grandma and Grandpa had planned a grand BBQ with all of Aaron's family minus one Brother. (Aaron stopped to drop something off to his oldest brother on our way home to SLC and commented how nice it was that he had seen all of his siblings that weekend. He said that it was a real treat.)
This is a picture of the girls dressed in their Sunday best ready to go to church with Grandma.
Katie loves to pick flowers in Grandma's garden and decided she needed a little bit of extra in the hair department. After church we enjoyed a nice dinner and then headed to the airport to pick up Bubby and Poppy who were returning from a 3 week vacay to the South Pacific/Australia.
We drove to Cedar City Sunday night and arrived about the same time and Dan, Rosalyn and Family. Monday morning we had a tour of Daniel's new house. It is really cute and we are so excited/envious of their move to Cedar City.
Bubby's pool was supposed to open this weekend but the heater was broken and our plans to swim were thwarted. Bummer! We settled for a run through the sprinkler and popcicles.
Our trip was way to short and we were not ready to come home. As proof of this I had to pick up Jake about 45 minutes after school started on Tuesday. He said he was sick. When I got him home and started to quiz him a bit, he said he was home sick for Cedar City and St. George. Poor Jake. We should have just stayed another day because Jake missed school anyway. Oh well. In a few weeks we will be back for more summer fun and games. Stay tuned.
